Whole Life Challenge - Day 1

It's the first day of the Whole Life Challenge and I am pumped up!! Our team is Fierce and Flab-u-less and Natalie Wood, my principal, is our team captain. In case you are wondering what the WLC is - check out the website: https://www.wholelifechallenge.com/wlcsummer14/rules

Basically, it is 8 weeks of eating healthy and exercising as well as incorporating lifestyle changes like getting enough sleep and drinking water. You earn points and lose points for following or not following the rules. The Five Standard Point Categories are: Nutrition, Exercise, Mobilization, Supplementation, Lifestyle. The nutrition is going to be the hardest for me. Here's the gist of it: no grains/starchy carbohydrates, no sugar/sweeteners, no dairy, no sodas/alcohol/juice, no artificial ingredients, and no processed foods. Well that knocks out a lot of what I eat!!! Fortunately, I do not drink sodas and alcohol, haha!

I did my prelim workout with Michele Granger. It is eleven very intensive minutes!!! Here's the
Official WorkoutIn 11 minutes:
  1. Run 800m (1/2 mile)
  2. Then perform
  3. 75 squats followed by
  4. 50 sit ups followed by
  5. 25 push ups followed by
  6. as many burpees as possible in time remaining.

Count ALL reps (squats, sit ups, push ups, and burpees) as your score.
For example: if you complete the squats (75) and 25 sit ups, your score is 100.
If you complete the squats (75), sit ups (50), push ups (25) and 5 burpees, your score is 155.

I ran the half-mile in 6:45 so that left me with an excruciating 4:15 for the rest of the workout. Now keep in mind, I NEVER EVER do squats, sit ups, push ups and burpees!! I did the 75 squats, yes, I did! Then I did the 50  sit ups, can you believe it??? I was struggling with the first push up when the timer mercifully went off! Whew!! So my score was 126 - not bad at all considering my weight, age and my bad knee flaring up! So now, I have to work on doing a push up! I found some modifications on YouTube that help you gain upper body strength - that is a big weakness for me!

I will be cooking and preparing everything that goes in my mouth basically so I spent all week planning and shopping for meals next week. It took three trips to the grocery store but I finally got it all done. My refrigerator is about three-fourths full of fruits and vegetables!! I am going to do all my food prep this weekend so I will be able to stay "compliant" with my nutrition.

The lifestyle challenge this week is to meditate for ten minutes daily. My meditation will be on our Lord Jesus Christ!! I am going to spend the ten minutes meditating on His word, focusing on His Holiness and just sitting and listening to Him.

So, here I go on another leg of my journey. Praying that I will stay the course and lose some more of this weight! God is my strength!!! Stay tuned!!!

So glad you finally posted an update! :) The WLC sounds so fun! Pretty sure your score of 126 would beat any score I'd get! I was laughing about your cook time for organic brown rice (that you posted on FB). We eat organic brown jasmine rice, and I LOVE IT!!!! It takes longer than white rice too cook but not as long as brown rice.

Julie, I've gained a few pounds on vacation. I am working on getting those off and THEN working on getting into the illusive 170's! I will try the jasmine brown rice...if I can find it around here!
