My last post was about Wheat Belly. I did follow that diet and had an initial weight loss that quickly leveled off. Since then, I actually was a vegan for 3 days!! CRAZINESS!!! I hit another plateau and FREAKED OUT!! Read all kinds of books about very restrictive diets! I KNOW BETTER!! GOOD GRIEF, I'M A DIETITIAN!!! I fell for ALL of it! Shish!!! I had been using My Fitness Pal and was still staying within my allotted amount of calories but still NOT losing any weight. I have rejoined Weight Watchers and I am losing again. Here are some things that I have learned during my frenzie:
1. Diets that restrict food groups will result in hunger which results in an eating binge! Your body is starving and it will GET you to eat! I went with some church friends to a VBS meeting in Fayetteville and learned this lesson when it was after 9:00 and I was starving. We went to Zaxby's and I ordered the Big Zac snack - I was standing up shoving it in my mouth with both hands while we waited for everyone to get their meals! SHOVING IT IN!
2. Keeping up with calories alone does NOT ensure a healthy diet. Weight Watcher's Point system is the result of much research that considers many factors in assigning point values: fat, carbs, protein, fiber, glycemic index, nutrients, density. Example: The Zaxby's Big Zac snack that I devoured is 800 calories which is do-able if you are only counting calories. It is 29 WW points which is NOT do-able being as I can only have 26 points per day! Nuff said!
3. Each diet book I've read and the research that backed it up has some truth that I have used to eat better. Wheat Belly has made me more cautious about eating wheat because it very quickly turns to glucose in your system which in turn quickly turns to fat. Am I leaving wheat alone? No, but I have cut way back on it. Vegan books have caused me to realize that I need to eat more meatless meals and really watch my dairy consumption due to research that connects consumption of animal proteins to cancer. Am I going to swear off animal products? No, but I have greatly decreased the amount that I eat.
I read a book that has helped my realize that I'm in this for the rest of my life! The book is Wake Up! by Michelle Pearl and she has battle weight issues her entire life. It's a FREE Kindle book! If you don't have a Kindle, you can download Kindle software FREE on your phone or PC.
I have to go back to what I know and what worked! My journey is back on the straight path!If you read this post, please comment because I need your support MORE THAN EVER! I love you all and appreciate your encouragement!
