One Year Anniversary!

Day 365
Wt. 185
Total Weight Loss 46.2
Countdown to Goal: 214 Days
LBS to Goal: 35

Today is the 1 year anniversary of the day I decided to start taking good care of this temporary temple God has blessed me with and to LIVE my life! It's been an amazing journey so far. It hurts me to look back where I was a year ago - very sedentary, couldn't walk 10 minutes without huffing and puffing, high triglycerides, high cholesterol, high blood pressure! This past year I have walked several 5Ks and a 10K. I've lost 48 pounds!I just returned from a camping trip with the kids and grandkids and was able to hike with them! Many goals have been met with God's AMAZING love and strength. I am so weak but HE is so strong! TO GOD BE THE GLORY! Looking forward to continuing this journey!

Let's Go to the Races!

Day 362
Wt.  185 (+0.4)
Total Weight Loss 46.2
Countdown to Goal: 217 Days
LBS to Goal: 35

I LOVE doing 5K's! A 5K is 3.1 miles and that is how far I usually walk when I workout so it's easy for me to complete. I really like the excitement and I push myself during these races. I've walked in two races this month - The Color Run and the Crosspointe Cavalier Country Run. I did both with my family and had a lot of fun!

The Color Run was at the Atlanta Motor Speedway and it was so much fun!  I did this race with Jennifer, Denise and Melissa. I would estimate that 90% of the runners were  young females. There were a few young males and a very few older males. The group that there were practically NONE of was my age females! I only saw one other lady that looked to be about my age! Denise noticed it, too! This run was so much fun! One of my students and his parents ran, too! I love running through the colors! I got lost when we finished the run but we finally all got reconnected.

The Crosspointe Cavalier Country Run was so much fun, too! It was their first ever run and it was very well organized! It was so much fun to walk with so many people that I know! Jennifer, Denise and Carter did this race, too. I just love doing races with my family! This race was very exciting because Jennifer got first place for overall fastest female as well as first in her age group! Carter came in second place for his age group! I got a medal for third place in my age group, too!
I plan to train for the Twilight 10K at Callaway Gardens in November this summer.  We went last year but I was not properly trained. I finished but was so sore that night that I didn't sleep. I want to be READY for this one! These races help me push myself and I want to go to as many as I can.

Walking is such a wonderful way to exercise! It requires no equipment except for shoes and of course, my iPhone for music and Map My Walk app! I listen to Pandora and type in Praise and Worship Music or Toby Mac or Third Day. I feel so close to God when I am walking and worshipping! I get very excited on some songs and probably look very strange waving my arms around but I don't care!

Setting Things Straight

Day 361
Wt.  184.4 (-1.2)
Total Weight Loss 46.6
Countdown to Goal: 218 Days
LBS to Goal: 34.4

My last post was about Wheat Belly. I did follow that diet and had an initial weight loss that quickly leveled off. Since then, I actually was a vegan for 3 days!! CRAZINESS!!! I hit another plateau and FREAKED OUT!! Read all kinds of books about very restrictive diets! I KNOW BETTER!! GOOD GRIEF, I'M A DIETITIAN!!! I fell for ALL of it! Shish!!! I had been using My Fitness Pal and was still staying within my allotted amount of calories but still NOT losing any weight. I have rejoined Weight Watchers and I am losing again. Here are some things that I have learned during my frenzie:

1. Diets that restrict food groups will result in hunger which results in an eating binge! Your body is starving and it will GET you to eat! I went with some church friends to a VBS meeting in Fayetteville and learned this lesson when it was after 9:00 and I was starving. We went to Zaxby's and I ordered the Big Zac snack - I was standing up shoving it in my mouth with both hands while we waited for everyone to get their meals! SHOVING IT IN!

2. Keeping up with calories alone does NOT ensure a healthy diet. Weight Watcher's Point system is the result of much research that considers many factors in assigning point values: fat, carbs, protein, fiber, glycemic index, nutrients, density.  Example: The  Zaxby's Big Zac snack that I devoured is 800 calories which is do-able if you are only counting calories. It is 29 WW points which is NOT do-able being as I can only have 26 points per day! Nuff said!

3. Each diet book I've read and the research that backed it up has some truth that I have used to eat better. Wheat Belly has made me more cautious about eating wheat because it very quickly turns to glucose in your system which in turn quickly turns to fat. Am I leaving wheat alone? No, but I have cut way back on it. Vegan books have caused me to realize that I need to eat more meatless meals and really watch my dairy consumption due to research that connects consumption of animal proteins to cancer. Am I going to swear off animal products? No, but I have greatly decreased the amount that I eat.

I read a book that has helped my realize that I'm in this for the rest of my life! The book is Wake Up! by Michelle Pearl and she has battle weight issues her entire life. It's a FREE Kindle book! If you don't have a Kindle, you can download Kindle software FREE on your phone or PC.

I have to go back to what I know and what worked! My journey is back on the straight path!If you read this post, please comment because I need your support MORE THAN EVER! I love you all and appreciate your encouragement!
